Jamaican Rum – High-Ester Malt Alternatives
This event has passed
Old Spirits Lab is back! With 7 Jamaican high ester, high proof rums. Bam! Jamaican rum is seen as one of the best alternatives to single malt whisky and is highly praised by critics like Serge Valentin of Whiskyfun. It’s not hard to see why: Jamaican rum is powerful, rich and has a great development on the palate. No liquid sugar & vanilla-extract like some of big names.
If you talked to me a few years ago, I would’ve told you I hated rum. I could not have been more wrong.
In this tasting, we’ll put two of the most powerful distillates Jamaica has to offer head-to-head: Worthy Park vs. Hampden. Through these two, we’ll explain what sets Jamaica apart from the other rum nations.
Quite a few of these bottlings were awarded 90+ points at whiskyfun… So you might not want to miss this one.
The line-up:
– base rum
– Worthy Park 12yo 2005-2017 (Liquid Treasures & The Whisky Mercenary)
– Hampden 16yo 2000-2017 (Excellence Rhum)
– Worthy Park 10yo 2006-2017 (Rum Nation – Small Batch)
– Hampden 24yo 1992-2016 (Rum Nation – Small Batch)
– Worthy Park 10 yo 2006-2016 (Kintra)
– Hampden 18 yo – 1998-2016 (Rum Nation – Small Batch)
The tasting will be accompanied with delicious canapees by Barasti’s chef Baudi (last time, guests thought these alone made attending worth it!).
Costs for joining will be 37,50 euro and that’s some great bang-for-buck, if I may say so.
Let us know if you want to join as seating is limited!
